NXT Takeover XXX, initially meant to take place in Boston, hails from Full Sail University on Saturday, August 22nd, 2020.

It features a couple of multiple person matches. There is The Triple Threat match to see who the #1 contenders are for the Tag Team Championships, and also the Ladder Match to see who will win the NXT North American Championship which Keith Lee just vacated.

Speaking of – Lee has a big title defense taking place against Karrion Kross.

There is only one womans match on the show and it is Io Shirai vs Dakota Kai.

We’ve also got Adam Cole vs Pat McAfee.

NXT Takeover XXX Betting Tips:

Tag Team #1 Contenders Triple Threat: Personally I think they should get Breezango in the feud for the tag titles, have them recreate the Fashion Files and try and capture the NCIS crowd. This is a really tough one honestly. El Legado are the priority team so should win however with Imperium as champions, it’d make more sense for Lorcan & Burch to win. I’ll take Breezango to concede the defeat for 1/4u at +134 odds. That way the other two teams aren’t hurt by the loss.

Io Shirai vs Dakota Kai: Obviously there is no chance of betting here unless we believe Dakota Kai wins. However the star rating of the Wrestling Observer is listed at 3.5 stars and we can bet over or under that. Shirai has a pretty good run of over 4 star matches at most Takeover events. The only one that went under was the 4 way in New York. Kai is generally below 3.5 and it’s a question of whether Dakotai Kai can be carried above it or not. I don’t normally do star ratings but I’d wager 1/4u on Under 3.5 Stars at -134 odds.

Betting

Adam Cole vs Pat McAfee: Cole is the likely winner of this one. I wouldn’t be shocked if Pat McAfee won to be honest for a few reasons, however I’m not putting money where my mouth is. I’ve went back and watched matches featuring non-wrestlers, and a common trope is them to “shock” the actual wrestler and get the first near fall. I’m doing a 1/4u bet on Pat McAfee to get the first near fall at +100.

Keith Lee vs Karrion Kross: I think it is way too soon for them to have Keith Lee drop the title. Especially after winning that title vs title match. I mean maybe they hotshotted a lot of that but it seems crazy for them to simply drop the titl ehere.

In saying that they have went all in on Karrion Kross. So this is a very tough one where I feel Lee losing would be the wrong move however with Kross being the underdog, I’d actually lean on him to win. I’m not going to bet this one but it is very intriguing.

NXT North American Championship Ladder Match: I’d have to say that with them having a program on the go, Priest or Grimes are the ones to win. I’m a bit of a Priest mark so I think he should be the one to take it. I enjoy him a lot. I’ll do 1/4u on Priest to win although if you are looking for an upset pick, Cameron Grimes is the best play.

NXT TakeOver: Chicago was a professional wrestling show and WWE Networkevent that took place on May 20, 2017, at the Allstate Arena in the Chicago suburb of Rosemont, Illinois. The event was produced by WWE for its NXTbrand division and streamed live on the WWE Network. It was the 15th NXT TakeOver event and specifically the first of two in the TakeOver: Chicago chronology, a subseries of TakeOvers.

Production[edit]

Background[edit]

TakeOver is a series of professional wrestling shows that began on May 29, 2014, as WWE's then-developmental leagueNXT held their second WWE Network exclusive live broadcast, billed as TakeOver.[1] In subsequent months, the 'TakeOver' moniker became the brand used by WWE for all of their NXT live specials. TakeOver: Chicago was the 15th NXT TakeOver event and was a support show for the 2017 Backlashpay-per-view. It was also the first of two in the Chicago chronology, a subseries of TakeOvers that were held at the Allstate Arena in the Chicago suburb of Rosemont, Illinois.[2]TakeOver: WarGames in 2019 would also be held in the Allstate Arena, but was part of the WarGames chronology.[3]

Storylines[edit]

The card comprised five matches. The matches resulted from scripted storylines, where wrestlers portrayed heroes, villains, or less distinguishable characters that built tension and culminated in a wrestling match or series of matches. Results were predetermined by WWE's writers on the NXT brand, while storylines were produced on their weekly television program, NXT.[4][5]

At TakeOver: Orlando, Bobby Roode retained the NXT Championship over Shinsuke Nakamura.[6] The following Wednesday on NXT, Roode came out and insulted Nakamura. Hideo Itami interrupted Roode's speech, slapped him and attacked him with a GTS. The following week on NXT, general manager William Regal made a title match between the two official for TakeOver: Chicago.

Asuka successfully defended the NXT Women's Championship against Ember Moon at TakeOver: Orlando, but during the match, Asuka shoved the referee onto Moon to avoid Moon's finisher, the Eclipse, continuing Asuka's transition into a villainess that began at TakeOver: Toronto.[6] On the May 3 NXT, Moon, Ruby Riott, and Nikki Cross were the final three combatants remaining in a #1 Contender's Battle Royal. During the match, Asuka attacked all three women, resulting in a no contest and cementing Asuka's heel turn. After the match, William Regal announced that Asuka will defend the NXT Women's Championship against Moon, Riot, and Cross in a Fatal 4-Way match at TakeOver: Chicago.[7] However, Moon suffered a legitimate shoulder injury after being thrown out of the ring awkwardly during Asuka's attack. Therefore, Moon was pulled out of the match, making the match a triple threat.[8]

On May 6, during at a United Kingdom Championship Tournament live event, Tyler Bate defeated Joseph Conners to retain the WWE United Kingdom Championship. Following the match, it was announced that on May 7 at the United Kingdom Championship Special, Bate would defend his title against Mark Andrews, who had become the number one contender after defeating James Drake. Bate would go on and win the match. Also on May 7, Pete Dunne defeated Trent Seven to become the new number one contender for the United Kingdom Championship at TakeOver: Chicago.[9]

In the penultimate match, Bobby Roode defended the NXT Championship against Hideo Itami. Roode performed a 'Glorious DDT' on Itami for a near-fall. Itami performed a 'GTS' on Roode, who rolled out of the ring, and scored a near-fall. Itami attempted a second 'GTS' on Roode, who countered and performed two consecutive 'Glorious DDTs' on Itami to retain the title.[10]

Main event[edit]

In the main event, The Authors of Pain (Akam and Rezar) defended the NXT Tag Team Championship against DIY (Johnny Gargano and Tommaso Ciampa) in a ladder match. Gargano performed a splash off a ladder onto Akam, who was lay on a ladder bridged between the ring apron and the barricade, whilst Ciampa performed a splash off the ladder through a ladder, which was also bridged, on Rezar. After Paul Ellering interfered, Gargano performed a superkick on Ellering. Ciampa performed a German suplex through a ladder, which was positioned in the corner, on Rezar. Gargano and Ciampa performed 'Meeting in the Middle' into a ladder, which Akam was trapped in. Gargano and Ciampa attempted to retrieve the title belts but Akam and Rezar performed powerbombs on Gargano and Ciampa. Akam and Rezar then performed the 'Super Collider' on Gargano and Ciampa. Akam and Rezar retrieved the title belts to retain the title.

After the match, Ciampa attacked Gargano and performed two running knee smashes on Gargano, turning heel. Ciampa performed an 'Air Raid Crash' through two tables near the announce table on Gargano. Medical personnel checked on Gargano as the event ended.[10]
